Mindfulness Experiences

With lockdown in Melbourne and tight restrictions in place, it is natural to feel overwhelmed and feeling in a state of limbo.

It resonates with me on my strict upbringing having a curfew on when to be home when out socialising and IVF treatments that controlled me like a puppet.

Recently I facilitated two mindfulness experiences to Kindergarten children that can assist both body and mind to be placed in a more calming state. This activity is for all ages and another strategy that may be utilised not just in our present situation, but for any factor we may be faced.

Calming Wands:

Twigs, a feather, strong decorative tape, ribbons, an unused duster, pipe cleaners, and anything you may find amongst nature or at home to decorate your twig.

Drawing your breath:

Visualise a wave with your eyes closed or slightly open. Pay attention to your breath when inhaling and exhaling. What would that look like on paper? An upwards wave may represent when we breathe in and downward wave when we breathe out.

Art Therapy creates a platform to creatively practice ways to help regulate and calm our body and mind to feel more in control when feelings at times can make us feel anxious or filled with despair.
